PHILOSOPHY

MINDFULNESS

LEARNING TO BE AWARE OF YOURSELF, YOUR SURROUNDINGS, AND WHAT YOU WANT OR NEED TO CHANGE SO YOU CAN MAKE BETTER CHOICES FOR YOUR LIFE.

TRANSFORMATION

USING YOUR SELF-AWARENESS TO MAKE INTENTIONAL CHANGES TO HELP YOU GROW, ADAPT AND BECOME A BETTER VERSION OF YOURSELF OVER TIME.

BALANCE

LIVING WITH INTENT AND PURPOSE, KEEPING WHAT YOU DO ALIGNED WITH WHAT MATTERS, EVEN WHEN IT MEANS GOING AGAINST THE STATUS QUO.

ABOUT ME

I didn’t start Balance MTB to build elite riders. I started it because being outside, on a bike, helped me get through some pretty heavy times, and I wanted to give other people a simple way to do the same.

For me, everything I do with Balance MTB comes back to three ideas: Mindfulness, Transformation and Balance. First, learning to be aware of yourself, your surroundings, and what you want or need to change. Then using that self-awareness to actually do something about it – to grow, adapt and become a better version of yourself over time. And finally, living with intent and purpose, keeping what you do aligned with what truly matters to you, even when it means going against the status quo.

Riding just happens to be one of the best tools I know to practice all of that. It gets you out of your head, into your body and into nature. It gives you space to notice what’s going on, test small changes, and see that you’re capable of more than the stories you’ve been telling yourself.

I’m not a full-time coach anymore. During the week I help run an industrial tech business; Balance MTB and Trail Mates are where I put my energy into the human side of things. I work best with everyday people – those who are nervous, out of practice, coming back from a crash, overwhelmed, or just tired of going through the motions.

If you come out for a ride or a session, you can expect things to be relaxed, honest and low-pressure. No performance culture, no ego. Just a bit of guidance, a bit of challenge, and a focus on helping you walk away feeling more aware, more capable, and a little better equipped to live life on your own terms.

GOALS

HELP PEOPLE GET OUT OF AUTOPILOT
Create simple, low-pressure ways for people to step out of their routine, get outside, and become more aware of how they’re actually feeling and living.

BUILD SELF-AWARENESS AND CONFIDENCE
Use time on the trails to help people notice their reactions, fears and patterns, and give them practical wins that show they’re more capable than they think.

SUPPORT POSITIVE CHANGE
Encourage people to use that self-awareness to make small, realistic changes – on and off the bike – so life starts to move in a better direction for them.

FOCUS ON LONG-TERM SUSTAINABLE HABITS
Favour consistency over hero efforts – building routines, skills and experiences people can keep coming back to, rather than one big push and a crash.

PROMOTE HEALTHY BALANCE
Encourage people to look at how they spend their time and energy, and give them a practical way to rebalance things towards what actually matters to them.

MAKE RIDING ACCESSIBLE, NOT INTIMIDATING
Provide welcoming spaces for nervous, returning or everyday riders who don’t see themselves as “proper mountain bikers” but still want the benefits of riding.
